&lt;br/&gt;The Katrina OOPS. There is the Jack Abramoff OOPS and so on and so on. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;There will be more OOPS to follow with this Cheney shooting. Say for example:

&lt;br/&gt;American foreign and defense policy is adrift. Conservatives have criticized the incoherent policies of the Clinton Administration. They have also resisted isolationist impulses from within their own ranks. But conservatives have not confidently advanced a strategic vision of America's role in the world. They have not set forth guiding principles for American foreign policy. They have allowed differences over tactics to obscure potential agreement on strategic objectives. And they have not fought for a defense budget that would maintain American security and advance American interests in the new century. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;We aim to change this. We aim to make the case and rally support for American global leadership. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;As the 20th century draws to a close, the United States stands as the world's preeminent power. Having led the West to victory in the Cold War, America faces an opportunity and a challenge: Does the United States have the vision to build upon the achievements of past decades? Does the United States have the resolve to shape a new century favorable to American principles and interests? 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;We are in danger of squandering the opportunity and failing the challenge. We are living off the capital -- both the military investments and the foreign policy achievements -- built up by past administrations. Cuts in foreign affairs and defense spending, inattention to the tools of statecraft, and inconstant leadership are making it increasingly difficult to sustain American influence around the world. And the promise of short-term commercial benefits threatens to override strategic considerations. As a consequence, we are jeopardizing the nation's ability to meet present threats and to deal with potentially greater challenges that lie ahead. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;We seem to have forgotten the essential elements of the Reagan Administration's success: a military that is strong and ready to meet both present and future challenges; a foreign policy that boldly and purposefully promotes American principles abroad; and national leadership that accepts the United States' global responsibilities. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Of course, the United States must be prudent in how it exercises its power. But we cannot safely avoid the responsibilities of global leadership or the costs that are associated with its exercise. America has a vital role in maintaining peace and security in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. If we shirk our responsibilities, we invite challenges to our fundamental interests. The history of the 20th century should have taught us that it is important to shape circumstances before crises emerge, and to meet threats before they become dire. The history of this century should have taught us to embrace the cause of American leadership. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Our aim is to remind Americans of these lessons and to draw their consequences for today. Here are four consequences: 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;• we need to increase defense spending significantly if we are to carry out our global 
&lt;br/&gt;responsibilities today and modernize our armed forces for the future; 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;• we need to strengthen our ties to democratic allies and to challenge regimes hostile to our interests and values; 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;• we need to promote the cause of political and economic freedom abroad; 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;• we need to accept responsibility for America's unique role in preserving and extending an international order friendly to our security, our prosperity, and our principles. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Such a Reaganite policy of military strength and moral clarity may not be fashionable today. But it is necessary if the United States is to build on the successes of this past century and to ensure our security and our greatness in the next. 
&lt;br/&gt;

    <summary type="html">&lt;div&gt;Come-on, let's all admit the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help us god: Liberals, democrats, and the vast majority of uneducated working stiffs have lost America forever. Oh, not for a term or two or three, but from now and forever as America enters the inevitable decline from it’s once great position, just as all societies must do. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Vietnam was scary, fear of death really made people act up, so we won't be showing anymore war deaths on TV. A couple of decades pass, memories fade, Mom and Pop leave their house and small bank account and heck materialism feels good right. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;So, 20,000 of our rural and inner city kids over the last couple of years get killed or their limbs blown off in some desert. Somebody has to do the dirty work and they would only be hanging around the streets here or fighting for our great minimum wage jobs at Wal-Mart. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Hey, you have at least two ribbons on your SUV and you write messages to people on Tribes, what else can be asked of busy people? 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;In ten years, it will be 200,000 killed and injured; but, this is still far less than the big one; you know WWII. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;So thank you my dear liberal, democratic, poor, and working for less than $100K per year fellow American’s for allowing the right-wing conservatives to take over every branch of government, the entire mass media spectrum, destroy the public schools, eliminate pensions, reduce working benefits, increase working hours, increase every bill, tax, and debt the masses have to pay.  
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Now 90% of free Americans can be enslaved and divided against each other in pure hatred; leaving our dear right-wing, conservative, flag-waving, god loving rich white men to sell us all into wage and debt slavery forever.  Hey, we even won’t charge their kids an estate tax even though it will only save those with millions and save absolutely nothing for the working man. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Again, we must be honest with ourselves and not ask for something we don’t deserve. The rich white man owns and controls everything of significant value and they do claim to pay most of the taxes. They also have the most god fearing and America loving souls preaching for them everyday, dear sweet loving people like Rush, Ann, Sean, Bill, and others can be heard from every roof top.  
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Who speaks for the pathetic, apathetic, whining, spoiled, ungrateful liberals, democrats, poor people, people of color, people who don’t agree with Leviticus, people who work for a paycheck; I’ll tell you who – NOBODY and nobody ever really will or they will be cut off from the gravy train and be cast back down with the rest of the filthy lower 90% who clog our streets at rush hour or even worse don’t drive a car or work for a paycheck.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Forget that old worn out phrase, “We hold these truths to be self-evident:  That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; that, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.” It has been replaced with:

&lt;br/&gt;Who needs Medicare or affordable health care? If you’re sick and don’t have money saved, please die and stop whining?

&lt;br/&gt;Who deserves Minimum Wage, Unemployment or Food Stamps or Welfare? If you don’t have a good paying job, it’s because you are either not intelligent or unmotivated and that is your fault or your parents fault; so please do everyone a favor and kill yourself and help clean up the gene pool.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Who cares about Civil Rights or Human Rights?  Those ideas died with MLK, X, and JFK. If you don’t like the fact that you are a second class citizen, go get an executive level corporate position or shut-up and sit in the back of the damn bus where you belong.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Who needs an affordable public university education? If you (or your parents) can’t afford to pay for college and $150 text books, you don’t belong in college.  Let those who can afford a public education find good jobs managing you at Wal-Mart or McDonalds. Leave the private schools attend to the wealthy and not be disturbed by commoners.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Who cares about the handicapped?  If you were born defective or got mangled along the way, it’s your own genetic or stupid fault. Don’t make the rich pay for ramps and make jobs especially for you to do; just go out in the woods and die like all sick animals do.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Who needs Freedom of Speech or Fact based news reporting? You wouldn’t know the truth from a lie anyway because nobody taught you logic or critical thinking skills. Its best that you stay misinformed and kept angry with your neighbors and fellow American’s who are frankly just like you except for the labels they wear. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Who needs clean water, air, and soil? If profit is to be made from polluting inner cities and rural areas, so be it.  If you don’t like it you can move to an upper class gated community on a hill in the suburbs. Your home will come with an excellent water filtration system and the best electro-static and ultra-violet air scrubbers and clean soil is available if you want an organic garden.  If you can’t afford such a home, how is that anyone else’s problem?  You were not born from the right parents, only the chosen few deserve the fruits of society, everyone else is a peasant to be enslaved by the maddening thirst for money and power they can never have.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;People get the government and society they deserve – PERIOD.  If you are not willing to stop everything you are doing today for the causes required to reverse the things you find totally unacceptable, then you get to die slowly under your own oppression.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Hitler had near total control of the people by creating immense fear of the Jews.  Today, the Republican’s have near total control by creating fear of Jews worst enemy (the Arabs). It’s all the same with different labels, except this time they have television with pictures of scary men with turbans shouting “death to America” and shooting guns in the air and of course those bullets could come down on our heads!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;It’s a good thing the people are too dumb to think, ah, we have 300 million people that would fight on every corner and a big ocean and a big continent between us, and ah they don’t have anyway to come here and kill all of us, and ah they don’t have anything except ah, most of the oil on earth and ah, we use a lot more oil than anyone else and ah gee we are all screwed if we don’t get their oil soon (or create an alternative) and ah gee the oil companies are making record profits and ah Bush’s family is in the oil business and ah Condoleezza Rice had an Oil Tanker named after her and ah Chaney ran Halliburton, something smells a little oily here.

&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Don’t risk embarrassment by freely and nicely sharing your thoughts and urging others to do the same.

&lt;br/&gt;You just keep thinking the evil invisible terrorist is coming to get you and your kids and do exactly what the nice angry shouting men and women on the TV tell you. Remember, the all-knowing, all-loving, god-fearing, family values, right-wing Republican’s will do all your thinking for you.

&lt;br/&gt;You just have to get angry at anything that may actually do some good for people in the lower 90% because the people in the top 10% should not have to be forced to share anything they can steal from everyone else, this would be anti-American and totally Communist, Socialist, Nazi, and Satanic.

    <title>Urgent!!! Please help</title>

&lt;br/&gt;There are thousands of good people who could potentially lose their lives very soon. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Since the release of the information on the Sujiatun concentration camp in China, which is reported to do live organ harvesting on Falun Gong practicioners. More people have been stepping forward to reveal information. Recently, a veteran military doctor in the region of Shenyang said that the Sujiatun Concentration camp is just one of 36 such camps. Another camp in Jilin Province referred to as 672-S is said to hold over 120,000 people. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;According to the Integrated Committee's announcement, transplant hospitals in China are now telling patients to "come in quickly" to get transplants. Patients are told that matching organs can be found at this time in as short as one or two days. The hospitals are also reported to say that, "it will be difficult after this batch of organs is used up."
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;We fear that there is going to be a mass execution to “hide the evidence” and get rid of witnesses. PLEASE HELP us, Falun Gong practitioners around the world are requesting an international investigation while there is still time.

    <summary type="html">&lt;div&gt;How many young supporters of George W. Bush do you know who have been willing to put their life on the line and serve in Iraq? How many Young Republicans? How many College Republicans? How many Young Americans for Freedom? Not too many, I think. Young neo-cons and fundies are, for the most part, spitting images of their heroes Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove, Wolfowitz, Perle, and Limbaugh. They are chickenhawks. Willing to sacrifice the underclass on the altar of their murderous ideology. But not willing to pick up an M-16 and put their asses at risk. A lot of the right wing trolls who lurk on Tribe are like this.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;It would serve them right if Congress could pass a law conscripting every young person who supported Bush, starting with his daughters. That would shore up the military personnel problem. The problem, of course, would be that the armed forces would then be filled with wingnuts.&lt;/div&gt;

    <title>George Bush in Hell?</title>

&lt;br/&gt;You would not want to be George W. Bush right now.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Not that you ever would anyhow, but especially not now. Indeed, there are indications that not even George W. Bush wants to be George W. Bush right now.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;That second term in office, the one that just a year or two ago seemed so precious that he was willing to launch a war just to obtain it, now feels like a life sentence. Plans for four years spending political capital now look a lot more like endless months of capital punishment.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The Bush Administration has nowhere to go but down, and that is precisely where it is headed. Poll data show that even members of his solid-to-the-point-of-twelve-step-eligibility base are now deserting him as his job approval ratings plunge like so much Enron stock, lately crashing southward through the forty percent threshold. With almost his entire second term still in front of him, Bush is poised to set new records for presidential unpopularity. That scraping noise you hear? It's the sound of sheepish voters creeping out to the garage late at night, furtively removing "Bush-Cheney 2004" bumperstickers from the back of their SUVs when no one is looking.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Meanwhile, as the scales fall from the eyes of the hoi polloi, even the one constituency which could plausibly make the claim that Bush has been good for America (read: their wallets), is speaking the unspeakable as well. Robert Novak, of all people, wrote a column last week chronicling his experience watching rich Republicans at an Aspen retreat bash the idiocy of Bush administration policies on Iraq, Hurricane Katrina, stem-cell research and more. Perhaps these folks realized when they saw Trent Lott's house go under that Mother Nature doesn't care whether you're rich and well-connected any more than does al Qaeda. You may be on Karl Rove's Rolodex, but now Bush is taking you down and your yacht too, not just forgotten kids from the ghetto who enlisted in the Army as the only alternative to a life of poverty.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Even conservative columnists like David Brooks (though not Novak) are writing articles nowadays accurately describing the changed mood of the American public. Where those powerful currents are heading is unclear, but given the radical right experiment of the present as their point of departure, there would seem to be only two choices. We can either go completely off the deep-end and finally constitute the Fascist Republic of Cheney, or we can turn to the left, toward some semblance of rational policymaking. The latter seems far more likely, especially as America increasingly regains its senses after a long bout of temporary insanity. These are bad bits of news for poor George, but worse yet is that they are only the first signs of the coming apocalypse. The real fun stuff is just around the corner. I'll confess to more than a little schadenfreude as I contemplate the ugly situation staring Republicans officeholders in the face right now. They are tethered to a sinking ship, and have only two lousy options to choose from as November 2006 approaches. One is to stay the course and drown. The other is to start renouncing Bush and his policies, appear to voters as the complete hypocrites and political whores many will prove to be, and then still drown anyhow. Nobody could be more deserving of such a fate, with the possible exception of Democrats like Hillary Clinton and John Kerry who have been even more hypocritical yet in facilitating many of the president's disastrous policies.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Watching these GOP opportunists jump ship will certainly be fun, but the greatest fun awaits the president himself. Bush has now lost everything that once sustained him. That includes 9/11, now safely in the rearview mirror for most Americans. That includes his wartime rally-around-the-flag free pass, as he has failed to capture America's real enemy, while lying about bogus ones to justify an invasion pinning our defense forces down in an endless quagmire. That includes, post-Katrina, the ridiculous frame of Bush as competent leader, and the former reality of the press as frightened presidential waterboys.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;And that's the good news for W. The bad news is all the chickens coming home to roost. The economy is anemic and fragile, and yet Bush has played the one card in his deck ostensibly (but never really) intended to remedy the country's economic woes. (Remember during the 2000 campaign when times were flush and tax cuts were the prescription? Remember in 2001 when the economy was in a recession and tax cuts were still the prescription?). In any case, Bush's one-note economic symphony has succeeded in producing precisely the cacophony of disaster that progressive commentators have predicted all along: massive deficits, little or no economic boost, a hemorrhaging of jobs overseas, and a vastly more polarized America of rich, poor and a disappearing middle class.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Another angry chicken, of course, is coming home in the form of devastating storms and a grossly incompetent administration to deal with them. Bush is not entirely responsible for Hurricanes Katrina or Rita, of course, but he is partially responsible for them by his willful ignorance of the global warming issue. And he is more than a little responsible for the carnage and damage done, because of his budget-slashing on preventative structural projects, because of his deployment of needed-at-home Guard forces to Iraq, because of his staffing of the government with completely incompetent crony hacks, and because of his and their astonishingly lame performance in responding to a known crisis. Where I come from, a president who remains on vacation during possibly the worst natural disaster to hit this country, praises his FEMA chief for doing a "heckuva job" when the guy doesn't know what any American with a TV set has known for 24 hours about New Orleans, and then later fires him for poor performance, is a president who should be impeached for those reasons alone.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The other demons awaiting George W. Bush just around the bend are multiple and grim. One of these days (right?), Patrick Fitzgerald is actually going to move on the Treasongate story, and signs suggest that multiple heads will roll within the White House. The political damage will be even worse than the legal, though, as Bush's clean and patriotic image will be smashed beyond repair, as no one will believe that he himself didn't know all along who committed treason by outing an American spy, and as he will likely lose the key magicians who have kept him afloat for five years and more. Oh well. W's loss will be Leavenworth's gain.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;And there is more. The Jack Abramoff investigation has now been tied to the White House. There are also presumably an infinite number of other scandals waiting to explode (can you say 'Halliburton'?) should the Democrats capture either branch of Congress next year, not least of which being those concerning the Downing Street Memo revelations. Gas prices are off the charts and home heating bills are supposed to soar this winter. Jobs are disappearing, along with pensions and healthcare coverage, inflation is likely to rise, and voters are surly already.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;But, of course, the biggest cross for Bush to bear is the one he built for himself, and thus the most richly deserved. In Iraq, simply put, there are no good options. None for America, that is, but even fewer for George W. Bush.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;What can he do?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;He can't win. America (or, more accurately, America's oligarchy) is clearly losing the war as it is. It is a fantasy to imagine that, at this late date, more troops could pacify the resistance. But even if that were so the political consequences to Bush, especially given his promise of no draft on his watch, would be devastating and rapid. American public opinion has already turned decisively against the war. Imagine if there were a draft and all the bumper-sticker patriots across the land had to actually make a sacrifice for their president's transparent lies. All hell would break loose, and the Republican Party would be dead for a generation.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;He can't lose. The major downside to wrapping yourself in the flag, landing on aircraft carriers, labeling yourself a "war president", and being marketed in an election campaign as the reliable national security choice is that you had better deliver. Egged on by the likes of Cheney, Wolfowitz and Perle, Bush no doubt thought Iraq would be a fine little walk in the park from which he would benefit politically for the rest of his presidency. (Nor, assuming this president possesses anything resembling a conscience, need he have concerned himself with resulting deaths, since he told Pat Robertson "we're not going to have any casualties", and he may have even believed it.) Unfortunately for all concerned - most especially the Iraqis and American soldiers - Bush's presidency would be one very real casualty indeed should he decide to pick up his marbles and leave the arena, and so he will not, no matter the carnage or the futility. Doing so would be effectively admitting that there was no legitimate reason for the war in the first place. Everyone now knows that, of course, but were Bush ever to even hint at it, he would be committing instant political suicide. He can't draw. One option is to find some - any - kind of stability, declare victory and go home, saying we got Saddam, we brought democracy, yada, yada, yada. But how many Americans are now going to be fooled by calling an Iraq ruled by militants of one stripe or another a victory, after all the hooey about fighting for democracy in the Middle East? How many think replacing Saddam with a brutal dictator of another name is worth the price of 2,000 American troops and two or three hundred billion dollars? How many will be convinced that Iraqi women having fewer rights than they did under Saddam Hussein, of all regimes, represents a win for the home team? How many will still be unschooled enough to look at a Iranian-dominated theocracy in Iraq and call that a triumph? Moreover, even these total disasters presume a stability of some sort which may be little short of fantasy at this point. When the Saudi foreign minister goes public with his concerns that Iraq is careening toward civil war, you know you're in deep, and no amount inanities sanctimoniously uttered by Scotty McClellan can keep the truth at bay.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;He can't get help. Now there's a good one. Maybe the French have finally seen the light and realized what a mistake they made by not bringing something to the party in 2003, eh? No doubt there's a long queue of countries behind them wanting to commit forces to the farces that are decomposing in the Cradle of Civilization. Luckily for George Bush you can still thumb your nose at the rest of the world and have them come to your rescue afterwards. Just think of what a pickle he would be in if that weren't the case...
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;He can't divert attention. Time was, a government in trouble at home could throw a little war in some hell-hole abroad and divert public attention away from their domestic or other foreign failures. Kinda like Reagan in Grenada, or the Argentinians in the Malvinas, or Thatcher in the Falklands. Yet, while the American public has managed to massively and repeatedly disappoint still sane observers in recent years, it doesn't appear to be in any mood for more of Mr. Bush's Fun With Foreign Policy antics. Not that the country any longer has the available military force to pull it off anyhow, but it hardly seems that an invasion of Iran right now would have much effect diverting attention from Iraq, even if it could somehow successfully be done, another fantasy in its own right.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;In short, George W. Bush is toast, as is the whole regressive conservative movement of which he is but the most egregious exemplar. Not even another 9/11 would be likely to help him, as the security president who fails to provide security is the nothing (but simply failed) president. The demise of the right is now likely be true even if Democrats continue hurtling down their current path toward breaking all world records for political cowardice by a major party. Indeed, the worst of the Democrats may now also be in trouble amongst the base - as well they should be - for their cozy associations with the right, enabling its destructive march to the sea these last years.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;It is thus too bad, as we emerge from the nightmare of the last quarter-century, that so many of us lefties are atheists, agnostics or otherwise debauched secular humanists. Not only have we had to suffer the reign of Bad King George here on Earth, we can't even have the satisfaction of knowing that he'll be spending the rest of eternity rotting in Hell.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The good news, though, is that he's already there, and the flames are only beginning to warm him up. Perhaps that is why Time describes the dry heaves of a young staffer who had to breach the fantasy bubble and tell this "cold and snappish" president the unhappy truth about an issue, or the National Enquirer's report that Bush, who according to a family member is "falling apart", is back to drinking.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Thus does a new possible ending to the Bush administration suddenly emerge as a real possibility. Previously, I had assumed that our long national nightmare would be over in one of three ways, either with Bush somehow managing to finish his term, with him being impeached, convicted and run out of Washington, or with him being impeached, convicted and then refusing to leave, precipitating a constitutional crisis and even, possibly, a civil war. Now I see a fourth very real possibility.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;It was all fun and games when everybody loved him. When the guy who had failed at everything in life except having the right last name all of a sudden was showing those elitist snobs who was tops after all. When the man with a Texas size inferiority complex got to be adored by millions as if he were some kind of religious icon.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;But what if that all changes? What if Diminutive George, just like LBJ before him, can't leave the completely scripted bubble his staff manufactures, just as such set-pieces become increasingly difficult to sustain? What if the Peevish President can't escape - even by going to Crawford or Camp David - the mothers of dead children, the baby-killer taunts, the stinging-because-they're-so-accurate chickenhawk accusations, the calls for his own daughters to go to Iraq, the possibility that everyone was right about him all along when they dismissed him as the family clown? What if all of a sudden, it sucks being president? Why bother, then?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;It is clear now that one way the Bush administration might end would be with the president's resignation, in order for him to duck into more tranquil quarters. Who knows, maybe he could spend his days getting tanked in Crawford, not writing another book, or going into exile, perhaps in the south of France.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Of course, a pardon deal would have to be prearranged with Cheney, if they haven't convicted him yet, or with Hastert if they have. And, equally certainly, the resignation would be put down to "the president wanting to spend more time with his family", or some such ludicrous McClellanism, no more or less plausible than the rest of his daily fare. But the truth would be plain for all to see. The frat-boy party-time president who condemns kids less than half his age to the hell of futile battle in support of his lies would himself be deserting as commander-in-chief when the fun part ended. Kinda like he did last time he wore a uniform.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;History, it would seem, all too rarely delivers justice. The privileged few go out of this life richer than they came into it, while the poor often leave even poorer, not to mention sooner. Those who commit unspeakable crimes sometimes become presidents or prime ministers, while those who dare speak truthfully of those deeds are crushed owing to the threat posed by their honesty.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Even more rare yet are the cases in which history delivers justice with a deliciously deserved irony. But George Bush has provided us with just such a case. And the very delicious irony is that he is now being undone by a cynical choice he himself made to go to war in Iraq with other people's blood and other people's treasure, for the purpose of enhancing his tenuous self-esteem and the power of his presidency.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Goodbye, George. May you know precisely the rest and precisely the peace someone who would do such a thing deserves.

&lt;br/&gt;Now, noe of this means the democrats will sweep into power; the republicans will likely surive the midterms, but CAPITALISM and PATRIARCHY have failed, they are obsolete paradigms, and this will make both partyies, the constitution as it is, and the world as we have known it, increasingly irrelevant... &lt;br/&gt;Mitch Romney; won't get the nomination; pro-choice and from much hated Massachussets.. 
&lt;br/&gt;George Pataki; pro-choice, pro gay rights 
&lt;br/&gt;Rudy Giuliani, pro choice, pro gay rights.... 
&lt;br/&gt;Condoleezza.. yeah right, like republicans would nominate a black woman... 
&lt;br/&gt;John McCain; repulbican party establishment will ruin him before they nominate him; thye will never allow a por-election-reform candidate to win the nomination...

&lt;br/&gt;The phrase "October Surprise" was invented on Oct. 2, 1980 by George H. Bush at a campaign appearance in Eugene, Ore.  Mr. Bush warned that President Carter might engineer an event that would change the way the electorate viewed the national race because, "When you are a president, you have an ability to shape things to some degree.” &amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Whether there will be an October Surprise in 2004 remains to be seen.  We may even see a November 1st Surprise.  Or a 2nd of November Surprise.  Or we may see an October Surprise not engineered by the President. &amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;If an October Surprise were to occur, what manifestation is it likely to take?  Might it be the announcement that Osama bin Laden has been captured? &amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Earlier in the year, both left and right-wing ideologues claimed that the U.S. military already had Osama bin Laden on ice, ready to be produced. &amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Putting that nonsense aside, what are the chances Osama will be taken between now and the election? &amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The C.I.A. believes bin Laden is in a mountainous area north of the Pakistani city of Quetta. The region is populated with bin Laden supporters and the terrorist leader is estimated to have 50 bodyguards with him at all times.  bin Laden and his men sleep in caves.  The area is subject to snow storms sweeping 10,000ft-high mountains and buffeted by high winds.  There are no roads and donkeys are the preferred mode of transport. &amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt; 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;This makes conventional assault- surrounding the area and methodically searching for the terrorist- impossible. The plan to capture bin Laden would depend on a swift, surgical operation.  Special Forces troops in Afghanistan await intelligence about bin Laden’s location and the order to snatch him. &amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt; 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Capturing bin Laden would seal the election for Bush.  The only problem is no one in the U.S. military knows where to find The World’s Most Wanted Man. &amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt; 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The U.S. hasn’t been able to locate bin Laden since 9/11.  Let some simple, extremely unscientific numbers set the odds for bin Laden’s capture between now and the election- 160 weeks since the W.T.C. Bombings without useable intelligence : 1 week remaining before the election. &amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The far more likely October Surprise is that Al Qaeda will employ the Madrid Strategy, so named for the March 11, 2004 commuter train bombings in Spain that killed 191 people, to turn voters against President Bush. &amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The Madrid Strategy seeks to pick away at the coalition until it is reduced until only the U.S. remains.  The bombings in Spain were clearly intended to coincide with that country’s election season.  Al Qaeda’s hopes of turning middle-of-the-road voters against supporting U.S. efforts to stabilize Iraq were realized.  The terrorists, heartened by success in Spain, will try their best to strike where Americans will feel it most. &amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Battle Cry doesn’t shy from making predictions and so far we’re 2-0, but we can’t employ that kind of a hot streak in an arena that deals with domestic terrorism.  Instead, Battle Cry will set the odds. &amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt; 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Odds on a domestic terrorist attack before Election Day… 1 : 1. &amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt; 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;And if terrorists succeed in killing Americans at home? &amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;Bush would be victorious. &amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;There is little doubt that the Bush Administration, though hamstrung by the lumbering nature of all bureaucracies, has done its best to protect Americans at home and no patriotic American could ever believe that an American leader of either party would allow an attack to occur for political gain. &amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;
&lt;br/&gt; 
&lt;br/&gt;Americans aren’t appeasers.  Blood on American soil would put even “safe” states like California back into contention.&amp;amp;lt;br&gt; &amp;amp;lt;br&gt;

Ideally, we will look upon working for a better future as our foremost reason for contributing to BattleCry-CA.com.  At Battle Cry we work for change first, dollars second.  This mind-set will help BattleCry-CA.com survive until our company begins to generate revenue.  Helping one’s community is a reward unto itself; the paycheck is gravy. &lt;br/&gt;Employee Empowerment
&lt;br/&gt;     People are Battle Cry’s most important resource and the key to our competitive advantages.  We have experts writing in every topic.  The way to sustain a high level of enthusiasm and personal satisfaction is to empower the individual.  Our product is timely, interesting information that people trust and want.  How editors and writers go about making that product is up to them.
&lt;br/&gt;     Building networks of contacts and writers is an important task for all levels of Battle Cry personnel.  The more people working with us the better our product will be, the faster our popularity will grow, the quicker we will turn a profit.  We are our own best publicity department and our own best recruiters.
&lt;br/&gt;     Editors have been told they should treat their subject categories as their own personal kingdoms.  It is up to the editors which topics are reported.  The editor of each bureau knows that subject best; they know what should be written. 
&lt;br/&gt;     Battle Cry’s only content stipulations, besides that articles be timely, interesting, and pertinent to California, are no advocating treason (violent overthrow of the United States government/giving comfort or aid to foreign enemies), no anonymous sources (all original writing citing opinions or containing quotes must have a name verifiable by a phone number), and no conspiracy theories (no proof means no publish).
&lt;br/&gt;     However, editors are advised to keep the publisher and managing editor informed of their intended course of articles.  Doing so will prevent repetition of subjects, conflicts with other editors, and the wasting of time on subjects that are of marginal interest.   Occasionally a subject may straddle the lines between the boundaries of two subjects.  The publisher will decide which editor and writer will offer Battle Cry’s position.

    <title>What is up with The Conservative Point tribe??</title>

&lt;br/&gt;At the moment, I'm attacked by someone named Jean Luc and a dyke (her description) named mlove. There main agenda seems to be to take over the institution of marriage for gays. . . strange because they show no real respect for the institution or any other in our society.

&lt;br/&gt;We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

    <summary type="html">&lt;div&gt;Republicans who wish to convince us that they are conservative are fond of saying that "taxes are our money" and they just want to give it back but then the amounts are almost a joke and they don't  allow us to spend it the way we want.

&lt;br/&gt;Why do you suppose it has never occurred to them to let the citizens decide by providing a budget at tax time so you can specify where you want your money to go with legislation that would bind Congress to your choices?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I mean, if it's my money and I have to spend it on government, why does the Republican party and self-describe conservatives refuse to allow me to spend it on governmental programs as I see fit?!

&lt;br/&gt;Retired Gen. Tommy Franks is an outstanding example of how one can be both a patriotic American while respecting fellow Americans and American institutions.

&lt;br/&gt;Retired Gen. Tommy Franks, producer of the early military successes in Afghanistan (news - web sites) and Iraq (news - web sites), said Sunday that criticism of John Kerry (news - web sites)'s war record is political hyperbole and Kerry
&lt;br/&gt;is "absolutely" qualified to be commander in chief. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;A year into retirement, Franks also said he has not decided whether to endorse President Bush (news - web sites) for re-election. "I don't know yet. I'm leaning in that direction," he said on ABC's "This Week." 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Franks, whose hometown is Midland, Texas — where the president and first lady Laura Bush grew up — has been making television appearances in recent days to publicize his just-published memoirs, "American Soldier." 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;"Do you think Senator Kerry is qualified to be commander in chief?" Franks was asked. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;"Absolutely!" he said. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;But like the criticism of Kerry, the retired general said the Democratic nominee's recent harsh words about the war plan Franks created in Afghanistan was motivated by politics and his failure to capture al-Qaida network leader Osama bin Laden (news - web sites). 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;"I think a presidential election year is a marvelous thing. I think Senator Kerry is a patriot. And I think what ... what we're doing is, we're seeing an attempt to sort of draw the lines between the two parties in this country. And I wouldn't have it any other way," Franks said. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The characterization of Kerry as a coward and liar who did not earn the medals awarded him for his Vietnam service came in a television ad sponsored by a group that fashions calls itself Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. Kerry was skipper of one of the small Mekong River boats and received the Silver Star and Bronze Star for valor and three Purple Hearts for wounds. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;"I really work hard to stay away from hyperbole," Franks said. "People ask me all the time about `Fahrenheit 9/11' and then others will ask me about some equally vitriolic view at the end of the continuum on the conservative side." 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;"I believe that life really is someplace between the two," Franks said, "and so I am not a fan of hyperbole, whether it is for or against Senator Kerry or George W. Bush." 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;"Fahrenheit 9/11" is the anti-Bush film by documentary filmmaker Michael Moore. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;

    <summary type="html">&lt;div&gt;How many of you believe that conservatism includes being a straight shooter? Doing what you say and say what you'll do, and above all, consistently expressing conservative values in both word and deed? I do.

&lt;br/&gt;We've heard a lot about Kerry "flip flopping," but here are some of President's Bush doing the same thing. . . although, unlike Kerry, most are contradictory statements, not differences between word and deed (some are).
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;President Bush's "flip flopping" suggests several things"
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;1. He is unsure of where he stands.
&lt;br/&gt;2. Knows where he stands but feels deceipt and lying is a
&lt;br/&gt;   valid political tool.
&lt;br/&gt;3. Knows where he stands but is engaging in psych-ops with
&lt;br/&gt;   the American public.
&lt;br/&gt;4. Does not believe that consistency or word and deed has
&lt;br/&gt;   a place in conservatism.
&lt;br/&gt;5. Has no control over what he'll say, and will say anything
&lt;br/&gt;   as the spirit moves him. . . basically, is talking in 
&lt;br/&gt;   tongues.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;So, 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;1. Which do you think it is?
&lt;br/&gt;2. How do you feel about his verbal style?

&lt;br/&gt;2. Patient's Right to Sue 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;GOVERNOR BUSH VETOES PATIENTS' RIGHT TO SUE... "Despite his campaign rhetoric in favor of a patients' bill of rights, Bush fought such a bill tooth and nail as Texas governor, vetoing a bill coauthored by Republican state Rep. John Smithee in 1995. He... constantly opposed a patient's right to sue an HMO over coverage denied that resulted in adverse health effects." [Salon, 2/7/01]

&lt;br/&gt;...CANDIDATE BUSH PRAISES TEXAS PATIENTS' RIGHT TO SUE... "We're one of the first states that said you can sue an HMO for denying you proper coverage... It's time for our nation to come together and do what's right for the people. And I think this is right for the people. You know, I support a national patients' bill of rights, Mr. Vice President. And I want all people covered. I don't want the law to supersede good law like we've got in Texas." [Governor Bush, 10/17/00]

&lt;br/&gt;...PRESIDENT BUSH'S ADMINISTRATION ARGUES AGAINST RIGHT TO SUE "To let two Texas consumers, Juan Davila and Ruby R. Calad, sue their managed-care companies for wrongful denials of medical benefits ‘would be to completely undermine' federal law regulating employee benefits, Assistant Solicitor General James A. Feldman said at oral argument March 23. Moreover, the administration's brief attacked the policy rationale for Texas's law, which is similar to statutes on the books in nine other states."
